About the Camano Center
The Camano Center was built in 2001 and is owned and operated by Camano Senior Services Association. This wonderful building resembles a mountain lodge with wood and rock accents, and is designed as a place where community members can get connected to services, programs, classes and each other. The grounds are planted and maintained by our "Down to Earth Gardeners" group and other volunteers, with assistance of our paid groundskeeper.
The Center may be rented for weddings, parties, auctions, meetings, and other events. There are large and small rooms, a commercial kitchen, and a lovely terrace and ampitheater area available at reasonable rates.
The Center is also a hub of community activity. Fitness classes include senior aerobics, yoga, Zumba and T'ai Chi. There are a monthly book club, a writer's group that meets weekly, an acrylics class, and a drop-in watercolors group. Groups meet to play a variety of card games. AARP Safe Driving Courses are offered approximately every six weeks. Our 75+ group is a favorite with our senior population. And dozens of bus trips are scheduled every year.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Senior Services of Island County coordinates a lunch program at the Center, providing all community members with an opportunity to have a great meal and interact with other people. SSIC also administers a Meals-on-Wheels Program that serves all of Camano Island, and a program by which Camano Island residents age 60 or over can obtain Ensure on a donation basis (a $30 donation is requested for a case of 24 cans of Ensure).
The Center also maintains a medical equipment lending program. Anyone in need of medical equipment may borrow items at no charge for as long as needed (subject to availability).
Wireless internet is available throughout the building, and a lending library offers reading materials and videos for members to borrow at no charge.
